The reason I launched The Perch was to Stimulate Intentional Presence, and the Aim of The Perch is to engage with others to build a connected community and better businesses by generating a positive impact in each other’s lives. What we promise to do with each of you every day to arrive at that aim is to provide a space and services that help you come together with others and share lasting joy.

As a mission driven organization, our team talks about our purpose, aim and promise every single day. We do it in our morning huddles and our evening close-outs as well as shift turnovers. We constantly strive to ask of each other, “what went well, what could go better, and who stood out.” These conversations only take shape into steps, however, through our shared values, and all of our shared values are verbs.

Verbs are powerful. They are bridges between ideas and people. They are proof points between intentions and outcomes, and most importantly, they are the rubric of our lives or the meat of our memoirs. What we do…or do not do…shape us and others’ lives.

Yes, The Perch’s products are coffee and games, but that’s not why we do this. The Perch exists to Stimulate Intentional Presence. We just happen to have good coffee and really fun games, too. 😉 People, are in fact our purpose.

Each of us is a powerful vessel similar to a pebble in a pond. We can create ripples or waves, we can pour into others as well as receive humbly, and we describe these impacts with verbs.

Our verbs at The Perch are:

Cultivate | Craft | Collaborate | Resonate | Play

Our values at work consider how we will ensure your third space nurtures belonging, or how we can engage with even the smallest task as something personal, how we work together as one team, why the words on our walls say, “aim higher,” and why we sincerely want to laugh with you, teach you games, and love it when you smile. While these are broad principles, we drill these down to the smallest but meaningful interactions with you. Examples include, “how can we describe each coffee or menu item in one line for our guests,” or “how do we guide guests so they know where things are, where they can sit, and where to pick up their drink,” and even how do we highlight what we can do versus what we may not have at present. These and many more are ways that we continuously iterate on how to improve your experience. They are our values as verbs, our values at work…

These outcomes won’t happen because I want them to, they happen because the team intentionally and genuinely work towards them to be something you remember and tirelessly challenge each other daily, how do we do this part better…

In our first month of The Perch, we met so many wonderful people, have got to know some regulars, and hosted many gaming events with several of you. You’ve made us smile and we hope we have started some seeds of lasting memories.

Last week, I turned 50, and I feel like I am just warming up! The Perch is my fifth for-profit organization, and seventh overall, but The Perch will be my last endeavor, what I have shared with some of you as my “sunset” and my aim is that it is here for you at least the next decade or two. Over those next two decades I am so excited to meet several of you, get to know you and provide a space that can be some small fabric in your life.

If you have been in, and I have not met you, please come say hello, you are the reason I am doing this, and I cannot wait to hear from you.

Make it a great day,

Jacob
